About the Opportunity:
The Bourse & Bazaar Foundation is seeking an Intern to support the research, editorial, and convening work of the Bologna Initiative for Sanctions Relief during autumn of 2026.
Working alongside the Initiative's team, the Intern will provide support across three connected streams: research and editorial support for articles published on The Sanctions Age; communication activities within and beyond the Initiative's network, including its newsletter; and preparation for the second annual conference in Bologna in November 2026.
The ideal candidate is a careful reader and writer with a demonstrated interest in sanctions policy, economic statecraft, or related fields, who is comfortable moving between research support, editorial work, and the practical coordination that event delivery requires.
About the Bologna Initiative for Sanctions Relief:
Launched in Bologna in 2025, the Bologna Initiative for Sanctions Relief responds to the rise of sanctions as a central tool of contemporary statecraft. The Initiative brings together scholars, analysts, practitioners, and policymakers committed to making sanctions policy more responsible, effective, and humane. We advance interdisciplinary research and publish analysis on sanctions relief, sanctions termination, humanitarian impacts, and policy reform on our platform The Sanctions Age. Our seminars and conferences convene international sanctions experts for critical debate. We inform governments, international organisations, journalists, and civil society stakeholders through briefings, analysis, and expert advice.
Responsibilities:
The Senior Fellow will be engaged as a part-time consultant with flexibility in managing their schedule. The role requires a regular time commitment over the contract period and periodic travel for convenings, consultations, and stakeholder meetings.
Research and Editorial Support
Support the team's research on sanctions policy and their effects.
Assist with the editing and preparation of articles published on The Sanctions Age.
Help compile briefings and analysis for the Initiative's team and network.
Communications
Support regular communication activities within and beyond the Initiative's network.
Contribute to the drafting and distribution of the Initiative's newsletter.
Convenings
Assist with the preparation and delivery of the initiative’s second annual conference in Bologna, Italy in November 2026, including speaker liaison, programme materials, and logistical coordination.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a graduate / master’s programme in economics, political science, international relations, law, or a related field. Recent graduates and advanced undergraduates with relevant experience will also be considered.
Demonstrated interest in sanctions policy, economic statecraft, or humanitarian and development issues.
Strong research and writing skills in English, for both analytical and public-facing outputs.
Attention to detail and reliability in coordinating multiple tasks to deadline.
Comfortable working independently in a remote setting while collaborating closely with a small team.
