Mohamed El Dahshan is Chief Economist at the Bourse & Bazaar Foundation, contributing economic analysis across the foundation’s initiatives. He brings two decades of experience in economic development, democratic stabilization, peacebuilding, and civil society engagement. His contributions span diverse regions and contexts, including, inter alia, his work in Yemen, his support for electoral processes in Sudan, and his active support in the political transition in Egypt. With extensive experience in international organisations such as the United Nations, the African Development Bank, alongside his involvement in the private sector and academia, Mohamed has significantly contributed to fostering regional integration efforts across the Arab world and the African continent, all from a global perspective.

Most recently, Mohamed served as Senior Economic Advisor to the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, where he led initiatives to establish economic stabilization and development within the UN’s peacemaking framework for the war-torn nation. He also served as Regional Economist at the African Development Bank and as a senior consultant to UNDP in Jerusalem, where he was seconded to the Palestinian government. 

In academia, he was professor of development economics at Ain Shams University in Cairo, and a lecturer in statistics at Harvard University and Université Paris X-Nanterre. He holds master’s degrees from the University of Oxford, Harvard University, and Sciences-Po Paris. He currently serves on the advisory boards of the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy and the Mandela Rhodes Foundation.
